This week saw plenty of celebrations and awareness-raising to support International Women's Day - in London we've seen everything from rallies and speeches to, on a local level, my inspirational sister-in-law organising a lovely lunch to celebrate all the women at her workplace - plenty of men came along too and a great time was had by all!
This year's theme was "Be Bold For Change', with a drive towards bold action to bring about desperately needed change. The dark side of International Women's Day, is, of course, that we still need one and that in 2017, women are still faced with inequality in almost every facet of life.
And so we turn to our daughters and wonder whether they will in fact they will experience equality by the time they grow, marry, start work etc.etc. Today, the World Economic Forum predicts that the gender pay gap won't close entirely until 2186.
That feels like a long time to wait, but while we recognise how much there is to do, for now, let's celebrate how far we've come and take a big dose of that most powerful of medicines - hope.
